LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) — A 23-year-old north Florida man is accused in the death of his girlfriend’s baby.
The Florida Times-Union reports Oliver Hayden died Tuesday, on his first birthday.
Deputies say Dwight Tyre III and 19-year-old Molly Hill brought the child to a Lake City hospital a day earlier for treatment of injuries that left him unresponsive.
Columbia County Sheriff’s spokesman Murray Smith says an autopsy was completed Thursday.
Tyre is not the child’s father. He was arrested on aggravated child abuse and battery charges. He remains in the Columbia County Jail without bond. It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.
Detectives executed search warrants at the home and on the vehicle used to take the baby to the hospital.
Hill has not been charged.
