Britain’s largest drug maker will pay just over $100 million to settle claims made by California, New York and more than 40 other states that it illegally promoted asthma and antidepressant drugs. Under U.S. law, a doctor can prescribe any medication for any condition, but drug companies must not stray from their labels when they promote the benefits of their drugs.
