Homeless Man Stole Car To Sleep In It

The suspect in a grand theft auto case from the Winter Haven library has been located along with the vehicle after a Lakeland Police Officer saw the vehicle headed towards I-4.

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening, a Lakeland Police officer conducted a lawful traffic stop on a red 20012 Nissan Frontier pickup truck after it was determined the truck was stolen. The driver, Rosjah Young, 26, who had stolen the keys from an employee’s purse at the Winter Haven Library, exited the vehicle with the keys in his hand. He did not offer any resistance to the officer.

Winter Haven Police Detectives responded to the Lakeland Police Department to interview Young who told them that after he took the vehicle, he used the victim’s credit card at Wal Mart in Winter Haven. Young explained he has been using the vehicle to sleep in since he is homeless. He rode around, staying in the area expecting to get caught.

Young told Detectives that didn’t try to run because he wanted to go to jail as it would be a place to stay.Young was transported by Lakeland Police to the Polk County Jail and booked on charges of Burglary of an Occupied Structure, Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance and Grand Theft Auto.
