Hernando County voters are deciding Tuesday if they want to renew a half cent sales tax.
Officials vow that proceeds from the tax, about $8.5 million a year, would go only to fix the county’s aging schools.
They say if voters let the half penny charge lapse, cuts will be made to things like sports, arts, and music to free up money for repairs to things like broken air conditioners and leaky roofs.
Fixes to niggling maintenance issues have been put off since the start of the Great Recession.
