Recently Proposition 37, a food-labeling initiative in California, failed to pass on Election Day. A group of moms and other concerned citizens have decided if corporations won’t label foods that are genetically modified, they will do it themselves.

Just Label It Yourself travels in groups to stores, placing their own warning labels on foods that may contain GMOs. Federal law currently requires no disclosure by food manufacturers of this information.

Some studies have shown consumption of genetically modified food may have health risks to animals and humans. Some of the federal government’s own studies recommended further testing of GMOs before they were put on the market.
