MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A post office that’s been a big part of a central Florida community since 1984 won’t be closing after all.
The Ocean Avenue post office was on the list of facilities slated for possible closure by the U. S. Postal Service. But town leaders and residents started a petition drive and letter-writing campaign. On Monday, they found out their efforts were successful.
Town Manager Bill Hoskovec says he received the good news from U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, a Republican from Rockledge.
Florida Today reports that Hoskovec spread the good news to the town’s commissioners and administrators, saying this proves that grassroots efforts work.
The Melbourne Beach post office serves the 32951 Zip code.
