GOP Activists Not Hot on Romney Presidential Bid

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Republicans aren’t hot on Mitt Romney’s presidential bid, but the former Massachusetts governor isn’t sweating it. Those same voters say they’d back him — eventually.

In interviews with GOP activists, it’s clear the party base is looking for an alternative to Romney. It explains the buzz around Herman Cain, the Georgia businessman who was the favored choice of Florida activists casting ballots in a test vote last weekend. And the furious speculation surrounding New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political aspirations. And the great expectations for Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s candidacy, which quickly lost steam.

Still, many Republicans say they’re willing to vote for Romney, whom they see as the strongest to go up against President Barack Obama. They say they are willing to set aside doubts about his record.
