Girl, 6, Hit By Car While Getting On School Bus

A Cypress Creek Elementary School student is in the hospital Friday morning from getting hit by a driver who failed to stop for a school bus. Police did not specify where the accident took place.

Six-year-old Maria Elana Hernadez-Cruz was hit by 24-year-old Angel Palix of Ruskin after failing to stop when the bus driver deployed the flashing yellow lights, based on preliminary information from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Hernandez-Cruz was coming from a side street to get on the bus when she was hit by the side of the vehicle. She was transported to South Bay Hospital with minor injuries.

Palix was cited for failing to stop for school bus when signal is displayed.
