Gingrich, Santorum To Campaign In Lake County

The surging Newt Gingrich and fellow GOP contender Rick Santorum, both taking aim at frontrunner Mitt Romney, will bring their campaigns this week to Lake County as Florida’s all-important presidential primary takes the political center stage.

Gingrich will meet with voters Thursday at the Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora, a campaign official confirmed. The event starts at 9 a.m.

The former House speaker also plans to dedicate his new Lake County campaign office, which will be located at the historic hotel, said Alan Winslow, chairman of the Republican Party of Lake County. The party is co-hosting that event, as well as Rick Santorum’s rally two days later.

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, is scheduled to make a campaign stop at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills at 9 a.m. Saturday, Winslow said.

Both events are free and open to the public and are timed just days before the Jan. 31 winner-take-all primary.

“It’s our obligation to educate the voters and introduce them to all the candidates,” he said. The party isn’t endorsing any of them, he said.
