GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida’s consumer confidence is remaining unchanged.
The monthly University of Florida survey released Tuesday shows the state’s consumer confidence was 77 in the month of December. That’s on a scale of 2 to 150 benchmarked to 1966 at a value of 100.
The December figure matches the revised number for November. Consumer confidence sharply fell off in October before rebounding last month.
Chris McCarty, director of the UF center that does the survey, says that improving economic conditions may be helping sustain consumer confidence. He said the dip in October was likely tied to the federal government showdown.
McCarty, however, said that despite the sustained consumer confidence that holiday spending by consumers is weaker than last year.
