WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ She says she’s not ready, but a Florida woman is going on trial anyway in the 2009 killings of her millionaire husband and his mother.
Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale and her brother, Cristobal Veliz, are charged with crimes including murder in aid of racketeering.
That count carries a mandatory life sentence.
Novack told the judge last week, against her lawyer’s wishes, that she needed two more months to prepare.
The judge said no, and a jury of seven men and five women will hear opening arguments on Monday.
Federal prosecutors say Novack and her brother engineered a murderous plot to guarantee she would inherit her husband’s $10 million estate.
Both deny the charges.
The husband, Ben Novack Jr., was the son of the man who built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.
