Woman Accused in Family Killings in Court

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A Florida woman accused of orchestrating the killings of her millionaire husband and his mother is being arraigned on a new charge that raises the stakes for her upcoming trial.

Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale is due Wednesday in federal court.

A count of murder in aid of racketeering was added last month to the case against the 54-year-old Novack and her brother, 57-year-old Cristobal Veliz of Brooklyn.

Conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Under the earlier charges, a life sentence was the maximum sentence but not mandatory.

Novack and Veliz are charged in the 2009 killings of Ben Novack Jr. in his suburban New York hotel room and Bernice Novack in her Fort Lauderdale home.

Ben Novack’s father built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.
