Trial Opens in Slaying of South FL Professor

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ Trial has opened in the April 2010 slaying of a South Florida professor, with a son expected to be the star witness against his own father.

Randy Tundidor Jr. agreed to testify as part of a plea deal with prosecutors against Randy Tundidor Sr. The elder man is facing the death penalty if convicted of the fatal stabbing of Nova Southeastern University professor Joseph Morrissey.

Tundidor Sr. is also accused of setting Morrissey’s house on fire with his wife and children inside.

They survived.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel (http://sunsent.nl/Iio8G3 ) reports that in opening arguments Monday the father’s attorney blamed the  killing solely on the son who was addicted to drugs.

Also expected to testify is Morrissey’s widow about how the couple was kidnapped and robbed before her husband was killed.
