Hurricane Sandy Moves North

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Florida’s officials are warning residents and visitors of dangerous rip currents as Hurricane Sandy moves north.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Florida east coast from Ocean Reef to Flagler Beach and Lake Okeechobee.

Tropical storm watches have been issued for the Florida east coast from north of Flagler beach to Fernandina Beach and the Upper Keys as well as Florida Bay.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management said Thursday that dangerous rip currents are possible along the east coast due to Hurricane Sandy.

They urge residents and visitors to stay out of the water when beaches are closed and obey all beach warning flags.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will remain fully operational throughout the storm.

A spokesman says 15 flights to the Caribbean have been cancelled.
