Hundreds Arrested in 2-Day Broward Crackdown

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Hundreds of people have been arrested and guns and drugs seized during a two-day crackdown on street crime in Broward County.

Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti said Friday the 280 arrests include drug dealers, prostitutes and convicted felons who illegally possessed firearms. More than 200 local, state and federal law enforcement personnel took part in the raids.

The effort dubbed Operation Cold Turkey yielded 15 weapons including an AK-47 and a sawed-off shotgun.

Lamberti also says a marijuana grow house was dismantled and 2,000 oxycodone pills were confiscated. In addition, officers seized $35,000 in cash linked to criminal activity.

Lamberti says this was the most successful such operation to date in Broward County.
