MICHAEL DUNN IN COURT FOR SENTENCING HEARING
Attorneys for a Florida man convicted of attempted murder for shooting at three teens during an argument over loud music will ask a judge to delay his sentencing on those convictions until he can be retried on charges that he murdered 17-year-old Jordan Davis. A hearing is scheduled for Monday.
‘STAND YOUR GROUND’ LEGISLATIVE TESTIMONY
The families of Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis testify before a legislative committee that will consider changes to Florida’s polarizing “stand your ground” law. The hearing will be preceded by a morning march and rally led by the Rev. Al Sharpton and others.
EXTORTION TRIAL BEGINS FOR BOLIVIAN POLICE OFFICIAL
Jury selection is beginning for a high-ranking Bolivian National Police official charged in the U.S. with trying to extort thousands of dollars from the former owner of a Bolivian airline. The trial of Mario Fabricio Ormachea Aliaga is scheduled to start Monday in Fort Lauderdale federal court.
OFFICIALS TO ATTEMPT PANTHER RELEASE
Wildlife officials hope to finally release an endangered Florida panther that was rehabilitated after a car crash. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the panther’s release in southeastern Hendry County is now tentatively scheduled for Monday afternoon. Two scheduled releases last week had to be postponed after the young female panther eluded capture inside its 5-acre pen at the White Oak Conservation Center in Yulee.
AFTERSHOCK EARTHQUAKE IN CUBA FELT FLORIDA KEYS
A fourth aftershock from an earthquake that occurred in Cuba two months ago was felt in parts of the Florida Keys. Sunday morning’s 4.7-magnitude quake that struck about 17 miles of Corralillo, Cuba was the fourth aftershock from the original 5.0 quake in Cuba on Jan. 9. The quake was not strong enough to cause damage in Cuba or the Keys.
