ANOTHER ROTHSTEIN SCAM FIGURE PLEADING GUILTY
Another figure in the $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme operated by disbarred lawyer Scott Rothstein is scheduled to plead guilty in Fort Lauderdale federal court. Court records show that Frank Preve will plead guilty Tuesday to wire fraud conspiracy, which carries a five-year maximum prison sentence. Preve ran the Banyon Group, which invested in Rothstein’s supposedly confidential but ultimately bogus legal settlements.
PALATKA DETECTIVE ARRESTED IN PROSTITUTION STING
A Palatka police detective has resigned after being arrested in a St. Johns County prostitution sting. Palatka police say 48-year-old Reno Chevelle Fells resigned on Sunday after his arrest at a St. Augustine Beach hotel on Friday night. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says Fells responded to an online ad offering sex for money and was directed to a specific hotel.
PLANE FROM FLORIDA CRASHES OFF BAHAMAS; 4 DEAD
A small plane that had taken off from Florida crashed Monday in the Bahamas, killing all four people on board. Officials say the Cessna 340 crashed on approach to Freeport on the island of Grand Bahama after taking off from Ormond Beach Municipal Airport near Daytona Beach. The plane crashed into an area of shallow water and mangrove and it occurred during low tide, delaying the initial search effort.
WOMAN MISTAKES 7-YEAR-OLD GRANDSON FOR INTRUDER
A Tampa boy is in critical condition after deputies say his grandmother mistook him for an intruder Tuesday morning and shot him. She told deputies she had placed a chair under the door knob and when she heard the chair sliding against the floor, she fired a shot in the dark, hitting the boy.
DCF WARNED MIAMI FAMILY ABOUT DOGS THAT MAULED BOY
The Department of Children and Families had warned of the “smell and danger” of six “untrained dogs” living in a home three years before a 4-year-old boy was mauled to death. The Miami Herald reports an unidentified caller told the agency that the dogs posed a safety threat for the children in the home south of Miami. When investigators visited the home, the child’s father Javon Dade, told them the dogs didn’t belong to him. The body of Javon Dade Jr. was found in overgrown grass in the family’s back yard after he was reported missing on Aug 13.
