Passengers Evacuated From Spirit Airline Flight Due To Bomb Scare

Scare Delays Spirit Airlines Flight In Fort Lauderdale

On Sunday night a bomb scare on a Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Dallas-Ft. Worth delayed take off.

Passengers on the plane were beyond frightened. Flight 971 was scheduled to take off at 8:15 p.m. but was delayed for several hours while authorities investigated an apparent bomb scare.

Here’s what happened. A passenger on the flight alerted flight attendants after getting a glimpse of a message on another passenger’s cellphone before the flight took off. The text message read “your bombs are in place,” according to another passenger, Autumn Lynn, that was on the flight and witnessed the whole incident. Apparently the message was sent by two passengers on the plane.

CBS Miami reported what passenger Lynn had posted on social media:

Update…due to Spirit “protocol” we are still sitting on the runway supposedly waiting for a plane scan & to be evacuated…the two men are still on the plane in their seats and their phones have been taken away…..

Before take off two men of middle eastern descent sent text messages saying “your bombs are in place” the man sitting next to them glanced over and saw the texts and started yelling for the flight attendants. The flight attendants took the phones, the men said “open the phone” & everyone starting screaming no!

Lynn also took to Facebook Live when the Broward sheriff’s office deputies boarded the plane and “ripped” one of the men accused of having bomb texts from his seat and drug him off the plane.

The second man accused of having texts messages about bombs was escorted off of the plane.

Passengers were told to exit the plane hours later and were told to leave their belongings. Everything was checked by investigators and cleared.

The flight took off around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning after passengers reloaded the plane. It landed safely at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
