PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) _ The former chief of police at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport has pleaded no contest to charges of stealing weapons from a Panhandle sheriff’s office.
Tony Walker was sentenced Monday to five years of probation.
He also must surrender his law enforcement certification and complete 100 hours of community service.
The State Attorney’s Office says Walker stole 20 guns from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. Walker was arrested after selling several of the guns at a Lynn Haven pawn shop.
The sheriff’s office had confiscated the guns as evidence in criminal cases.
Investigators tell The News Herald (http://bit.ly/QIM9KX) that several of the weapons would have been destroyed when they were no longer needed as evidence.
