British police and intelligence services are racing to identify a jihadist with an English accent who was filmed apparently slaughtering kidnapped American journalist James Foley. David Cameron returned to Downing Street from vacation to oversee the response after the horrific footage was posted online.
Scotland Yard has also been urging people in the UK to avoid spreading the gruesome video through Twitter and Facebook. They warn that to do so could be a criminal offence. The voice narrating the video depicting Foley’s murder speaks fluent English and the U.K.’s foreign secretary suggest he might be British … a troubling but not altogether surprising development.
