Fog & Smoke Close I-75 in Sarasota Cty

UPDATE: Highway re-opens at 8:35 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol closed I-75 last night before 11 p.m. between Clark Road and Jacaranda Road and it remains closed this morning until the fog lifts.

All the traffic on this 12 mile stretch of I-75 is being rerouted due to concerns of low visibility because of smoke and fog.

The Forestry Service lists a controlled burn in the area of Laurel Road on its fire maps; coupled with the morning fog has given FHP a lot of concern for travelers safety.

Traffic is now being detoured to US 41.

This is going to add several miles to your commute if this is part of your morning route, so give yourself plenty of extra time this morning.

The fog is expected to lift by 9 a.m.

Once it is deemed safe for drivers, FHP will re-open the interstate.
