GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Some University of Florida students are opposing a proposal to close the Architecture and Fine Arts Library and turn it into a studio for art students.
The Gainesville Sun reports (http://bit.ly/n3ELe6 ) that more than 100 students rallied Monday against the tentative proposal. The administration is considering the renovation after an accrediting group said the College of Fine Arts needs a new studio.
Architecture students say closing the library would deprive them and fine arts students of a shared resource. If it is closed, the materials would be moved to another library on campus.
The demonstrators presented the administration with a petition signed by 1,400 students opposing the plan.
