Third Suspect Arrested in MacDill Soldier Beating

Tampa Police have arrested a third suspect in the beating of an Army sergeant near MacDill Air Force Base.

Police have arrested 18-year-old Jared Richardson Monday morning.

Richardson, of Brandon, is the third teenager arrested in the attack of  Sgt. Johnny Aparicio, that happened around 3 a.m. on May 13 near Iowa Avenue and Renellie Drive.

Aparicio’s car had broken down and while he tried to walk home, he was approached by one of the men who asked him for a dollar; thats when the three men, joined by a fourth suspect, began punching and beating him.

Once he was down, they stole his wallet and cell phone.

The beating was captured on surveillance video, which police released to the media and generated national attention.

Police previously arrested Geroshe Lewis, 18, a Tampa Robinson High School senior and Tampa resident, and Lerome Howard, 18, of Sulpher Springs.

All three are charged with aggravated battery and robbery.

Aparicio was treated at a local hospital.

Police are still looking for the fourth suspect.
