Tampa Skinhead Sentenced to Life

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A skinhead has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal beatings of two homeless men in Tampa in 1998.

Federal prosecutors said 32-year-old James Robertson and members of his white-supremacist group targeted homeless men for violence, a practice they called “bum-rolling.”

Robertson was convicted by a federal jury in October of murder in aid of racketeering. He was sentenced to two life prison terms on Wednesday.

Three of Robertson’s co-defendants have pleaded guilty to the same charges and await sentencing.

The cases were cold for years. The break came in 2003 when Robertson talked about the slayings while facing sentencing for a bank robbery in an unsuccessful attempt to have his sentence reduced.
