Tampa Police Pull Man From Burning Car

Six Tampa police officers were treated for smoke inhalation after they braved a vehicle fire Saturday night and pulled an unconscious man from the burning car.

The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. Saturday near the corner of North 22nd Street and East Cayuga Street. Two vehicles collided and a 1994 Monte Carlo was on fire with the lone occupant trapped inside, police said.

As officers tried to pull the man from the vehicle others used fire extinguishers to extinguish the flames, but the fire continued to grow, police said.

They managed to pull the unconscious man from the vehicle. The unidentified driver was taken to an undisclosed hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
