Tampa Man Dies After Minivan Backs Into Tree

TAMPA – Detectives are investigating the death of man who was driving a minivan early Wednesday and abuptly accelerated backward into a tree, police said.

The man was identified as 43-year-old Marcus Ramos-Woodstock, but because he did not have a driver’s license or identification card, police said there have been descripencies over his name and birth date. His legal surname may be Gomez-Woodstock, police said.

Based on preliminary results from the medical examiner, alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said in a news release. His wife suspected a medical ailment may have contributed to the cause, police said.

About 12:30 a.m., Woodstock was moving a 1998 Ford Winstar from the side to the front of the home at 2208 W. Woodlawn Ave., police said. As his wife and sister watched, the man suddenly accelerated in reverse toward the property across the street and struck a tree, police said.
