Tampa Government Workers Will Vacate for RNC

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Tens of thousands of delegates, journalists and protestors will crowd downtown Tampa during the Republican National Convention this August and county officials don’t want their employees getting caught up in the mix.

Starting one week before the Aug. 26 convention, more than a thousand county government workers will vacate the 28-story Frederick B. Karl County Center in downtown Tampa.

They will return the Tuesday after Labor Day, Sept. 3.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/Aex9gs) reports that all county services will be offered at alternative locations and officials’ goal is to minimize traffic and any possible interactions with protesters.

The decision to move out of the building was recommended by the sheriff’s office.

The Republican Nation Convention will be held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, downtown Tampa, from  August 26 through the 30th.
