MIAMI (AP) — Stone crab season is just around the corner.
The annual season begins Saturday. The event will be marked in Miami Beach on Friday, when the famous Joe’s Stone Crab restaurant opens for its 99th season.
The Miami Herald (http://bit.ly/q78iXB ) there are a number of rules fishermen must follow. For example, egg bearing female stone crabs cannot be declawed. The crabs must be caught in baited traps, declawed, and then released. No spears or hooks can be used.
Stone crab season runs from Oct. 15 to May 15.
