St. Pete Officer Witnesses Drive-By Shooting

An officer watched a car drive by and fire several bullets into a south St. Petersburg home late Sunday, then quickly tracked down and arrested the fleeing suspects, police said.

No one was shot, but residents in the house were injured by glass shattered by bullets, police said.

About 11:32 p.m., Officer Ryan Larson said he witnessed a gray Ford Tempo drive by a home on the 900 block of 23rd Avenue South. Larson saw one person leaning out of the front passenger window shooting into the residence as the car advanced toward the officer, police said.

Inside the house were six people, including a 7-year-old child, police said. A seventh person was outside.

After the shooting, the Tempo proceeded east on 23rd, but Larson stopped the car before it turned onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South, police said.
