ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ The St. Petersburg Fire Department will honor a Virginia man for making two lifesaving rescues.
A ceremony with the city’s mayor and fire officials will be held Thursday to honor Gus Hertz.
Hertz and another man, Kevin Daly, helped rescue a man who drove his car off of the road and into the waters of Tampa Bay on June 13.
The next day, Hertz rescued two people who had been flying in an ultralight aircraft and had crashed into the Tampa Bay waters by the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
The pilot of the ultralight is expected to attend Thursday’s event.
