Rick Scott Cancels “Private” Gator Hunt Fundraiser

rick_scott_2013Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) appears to have changed course on holding a gator hunt fundraiser later this year.

The Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday that Scott’s campaign is canceling the $25,000-per-person event that was scheduled for mid-October. The paper learned of the news via an email from John French, coordinator of Scott’s campaign organization, Let’s Get To Work.

At a Tuesday event on tax cuts, Scott brushed aside a question about the gator hunt event. When asked who was responsible for organizing it, The Miami Herald reported that his answer was “Call RPOF” — signifying the Republican Party Of Florida.

Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission rules state that approximately 5,000 permits are granted for the open alligator hunting season, which runs from Aug. 15 through Nov. 1. This led former Florida state Senator Paula Dockery (R) to question how Scott’s campaign could pull off such an event.
