MAIMI BEACH, Fla. — Two people are dead in a Miami Beach apartment fire that also injured two firefighters.
Miami television station NBC 6 reports the fire broke out at St. George Apartments around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Officials say firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building when they arrived. One of the victims was dead at the scene. The other died at Jackson Memorial Hospital. An injured firefighter was treated and released from the hospital. The second firefighter was treated at the scene.
Fire officials say two dogs belonging to one of the victims also died in the fire.
The television station reports that 15 families were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting.
An investigation continues.
