Man Turns Self In for Shaking Baby to Death

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A Tampa man turned himself in to Polk County Sheriff’s deputies, telling them he could no longer handle the guilt of knowing his girlfriend’s 7-week-old baby died after he shook her.

Authorities say 28-year-old Eric Thomas Trinchet faces aggravated manslaughter charges after his Wednesday arrest in Lakeland.

He’s charged in the death of Isabella Irizary.

According to an arrest affidavit, Trinchet and Tianna Irizarry took the baby to visit family in Lakeland on April 27.

While there, Trinchet says they got high on prescription drugs and started arguing.

When the baby started crying, Trinchet told deputies he shook her.

She was taken to a hospital, suffering a brain injury and other wounds.

She died Monday at Tampa General Hospital.

Deputies say Trinchet was not the baby’s biological father.
