Hillsborough County deputies are investigating a series of sexual batteries and home invasions this morning at apartment complexes near the University of South Florida in Tampa.
The suspect, described as a black male between 20 and 30 years old, fled in the area of the USF Claw golf course and a search is ongoing, sheriff’s department spokesman Larry McKinnon said.
Due to the search, several schools near USF and in New Tampa are on modified lockdown, according to Hillsborough County Public Schools. Classes are being held, but with added security and no outdoor activities.
The schools that are on modified lockdown:
MOSI, Bowers Whitley, Pizzo Elementary, USF Patel, Muller Elementary, Witter Elementary, Turner Elementary, Bartels Middle, Pride Elementary, Clark Elementary, Wharton High, Heritage Elementary, Benito Middle, Hunters Green Elementary, Liberty Middle, Freedom High, Chiles Elementary and Tampa Palms Elementary.
