LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) _ A student was arrested at a central Florida high school after he was found with a gun at school.
A Polk County Sheriff’s deputy received a tip about the gun on campus while investigating the theft of a cell phone at Lake Gibson High on Wednesday.
The Orlando Sentinel (http://thesent.nl/wMDNZV ) reports the deputy and a school administrator found the 18-year-old student in a classroom, clutching a book bag to his chest.
The deputy took the bag and found an unloaded .25-caliber handgun and a marijuana bag inside.
Officials say the student admitted to putting the marijuana in the bag.
He denied knowledge of the gun.
Sheriff’s officials say the student admitted to being a gang member.
He faces charges of firearm possession on school property and possession of marijuana.
