Journalists Get Early Look At RNC Venue

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Journalists from around the world got an early look at the venue for the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Around 400 media representatives were in town Monday for a “walk-through” of the Tampa Bay Times, the arena where the nominating convention will take place Aug. 27 through Aug. 30.

They also got to see the Tampa Convention Center, where reporters will have work space during the four-day event.

Many of the visitors were technical advance people for some of the 15,000 journalists expected to cover the convention.

About 50,000 people total are expected to come to town for the week, filling nearly every available hotel room on both sides of Tampa Bay.

The Democratic Party will stage its convention a week later in Charlotte, NC.
