Gun In Ybor Belongs To Hillsborough Detective

YBOR CITY, Florida — It’s the story everyone is talking about: a gun left in the bathroom at the Muvico Theaters in Ybor on Father’s Day. 10 News first broke the story and has learned the weapon was accidentally left behind by 38-year-old off-duty Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Detective Luke Hussey, a 13-year veteran of the force.

“When he went to the bathroom, he left his own personal firearm in one of the stalls. After about an hour, an hour and a half, he realized it was gone and immediately contacted the manager and went searching for his gun,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry McKinnon.

But Tampa Police had already impounded it and identified the owner, but will not press any charges.

“At this point, we are in the process of turning the weapon over to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and they will handle the case administratively,” said Tampa Police Department Laura McElroy.
