Giant Python Found in Everglades

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, Fla. (AP) _ A Burmese python believed to be the largest ever found in Florida has been caught in the Everglades.

The University of Florida said Monday that the 1641/2-pound snake is 17 feet, 7 inches long, and was pregnant with 87 eggs.

It was caught Friday by a team searching for the invasive pythons in Everglades National Park.

The snake was euthanized and brought to the Florida Museum of Natural History for further study.

A biologist there says the snake is further evidence pythons are surviving in the Everglades despite efforts to stop them.

Thousands of pythons are believed to be lurking in the Everglades.

They’ve been found to kill and swallow animals as large as deer and alligators.
