Four Boats Burn Near Madeira Beach

Heavy smoke drifted through the area as firefighters worked to put out four burning boats docked at a marina near Gulf Boulevard at 131 st Avenue East near Madeira Beach.

Firefighters responded to the huge blaze that started around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Seminole Fire Chief George Bessler said the fires are ‘suspicious.’

He also said witnesses reported seeing a white car speeding away from the scene just before the fire broke out.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Officers had to close the northbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard and are searching for the vehicle and a person of interest.

No one was hurt in the fire, but one of the firefighters was treated for heat-related illness.

One of the four boats damaged sank.
