Former Jacksonville Pastor Released From Prison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A former Jacksonville pastor is out of prison after serving a sentence for sex crimes against two girls in his congregation.

The Florida Times-Union reports Darrell Gilyard was released Dec. 28 from Wakula Correctional Institution. Prison officials say he will now serve three years of probation.

The newspaper reports Gilyard is registered as a sex offender and has listed his address at a Jacksonville hotel.

Gilyard told the Times-Union he is “happy to have that dark part of my life over.”

He pleaded guilty in May 2009 to molesting a teenage girl and sending lewd text messages to another. Gilyard was pastor of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
