FDOT to Spend $3 Million for Signs and Cameras

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ The Florida Department of Transportation will spend about $3 million to install electronic message signs and cameras along Interstate 75 in north Florida.

The Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/QHJGyM ) reported Thursday that it will take about a year for the Intelligent Transportation System devices to go up along the portion of I-75 where a series of crashes killed 11 motorists in January.

State Rep. Keith Perry, a Republican from Gainesville, says the signs will be installed along a 10-mile stretch from Micanopy to Williston Road along I-75 and along a section of U.S. 441 in the Paines Prairie area.

He says they signs will help keep motorists safer in wake of the January crash. Officials say the crash occurred after a combination of fog and smoke created poor visibility.
