Flock of Vultures Plagues Fort Myers Couple

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ A flock of vultures is plaguing a Fort Myers couple.

Dave and Judy Harting moved into their home last year and said nearly 50 birds began gathering on the roof and deck and in the yard.

The birds are state and federally protected.

The Fort Myers News-Press (http://tinyurl.com/ckoz384) reports Harting has tried to shoo the birds with spikes and whirligigs on the roof, tied fishing line across the deck and installed a motion detector that emits a high-pitched squeal.

The birds leave behind feathers and droppings and scratch up cars when they land on them.

Another neighbor said the birds used to peck at his skylights until he installed roof spikes.

A wildlife expert suggested hanging a taxidermy-quality mount of a vulture upside down from the roof or a tree.
