Firefighter In Motorcycle Accident

A local firefighter was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after his motorcycle collided with a car, deputies said.

The firefighter, James G. Fehl, 40, was driving a 1987 Honda motorcycle west on Bay Pines Boulevard around 10 p.m. Sunday, when he collided with a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, driven by Shane M. Ross, deputies said.

Ross, who was driving home from work, was leaving the parking lot of a shopping strip center at 9685 Bay Pines Boulevard and attempting to turn east.

That’s when, deputies said, the motorcycle collided with the car.

Fehl, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle, deputies said.

Passers-by who saw the crash rushed to Fehl’s aid, administering CPR until paramedics arrived, deputies said.

Fehl remains at Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

It was not immediately clear where Fehl had been going, nor why the crash occurred. An investigation is ongoing.
