Do You Smell Smoke?

The smell of smoke is all over Tampa Bay.

Many residents have thought it might be local, but the Florida Forest Service say the smoke is coming from a 30,000-acre wildfire burning near the Osceola National Forest.

About 100 firefighters are trying to control the fire that started in Pinhook Swamp on the Columbia-Baker county lines, just north of Jacksonville and officials say the fire was started by a lightning strike.

Strong north winds have pushed smoke from the fire south into Tampa Bay and there have been several reports of breathing and eye problems due to the smoke.

Forestry officials believe that the smoke will likely linger in the Bay area for most of the day.

Also, the National Weather Service has issued a red-flag warning for the next several days.

A red flag warring is issued when conditions are favorable for the spread of wildfires within 24 hours.

The warning is for Pasco, Hernando, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
