Corrections Officer Faces Bribery Charge In Florida

OCALA, Fla. (AP) — A federal corrections officer in Florida is facing charges that he took a bribe in exchange for delivering drugs to an inmate.

Federal prosecutors say Albert Harris was arrested late Tuesday.

Harris works as a correctional officer in a penitentiary at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex northwest of Orlando.

Authorities say Harris started providing inmates contraband in exchange for cash payments in July.

On Tuesday, he met with an undercover federal agent. Authorities say he accepted a $5,000 payment and agreed to deliver 200 strips of an opioid-like drug to an inmate.

His federal public defender didn’t return an email Wednesday evening seeking comment.
