Cops Shut Down Stolen Battery Shop In Tampa

A police raid found that a Tampa business has been knowingly buying stolen car batteries.

Police seized more than 350 stolen batteries from Cash for Batteries at 8717 Nebraska Ave. after a four-month investigation, the Tampa Tribune said. The business was unlicensed and had moved more than 50 tons of batteries during the time police observed it.

Undercover police officers say they were able to sell batteries that they expressly told company employees were stolen. Businesses are required by law to document battery purchases, verify personal identification from sellers and take a thumbprint, the Tribune said.
