Clearwater 85-Year-Old Woman Found Dead

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) _ An 85-year-old woman has been found dead hours after authorities say she went missing from a retirement home in Clearwater.

Police say Lydia Jermann was last seen sleeping in her bed at the Highland Terrace Assisted Living Facility early Monday.

They say Jermann had dementia and used a walker to get around.

While the retirement home is not a locked-down facility, officials say Jermann usually checks out when she leaves.

The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/LPNUAC ) reports she didn’t tell anyone she was leaving on Monday and was reported missing about 2 p.m.

Authorities say a detective found the woman’s body about 4:30 p.m. at a creek about a half-mile from the home.

The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy.
