Central Florida Toddler Drowns in Backyard

INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Police say a central Florida toddler drowned after falling into a backyard swimming pool.

Indian Harbour Beach police spokesman Mark Rowley says 21-year-old Alexander Stabilito was performing CPR on his 19-month-old son when they arrived at the home Monday afternoon. He says officers took over and the child was taken to a Melbourne hospital.

Florida Today reports a sliding glass door at the home had been left open and the child may have been in the pool for up to 10 minutes.

Police say they do not know what the father was doing when the child went outside.

An investigation is continuing.
