Armed Suspect Shot, Killed By South FL Deputy

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Broward County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed an armed suspect in Pompano Beach.

Authorities say the deputies were responding to a disturbance call shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. When they arrived at the scene, they saw a man pointing a handgun at another person outside a second floor apartment.

The deputies say the suspect fired a round, hitting no one. Deputies ordered the man to drop the gun, but he started to walk down the stairway with the gun in his hand.

According to a sheriff’s office report, one deputy shot the man.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The name of the suspect has not been released.

Officials say the deputy will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
