TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ State health officials will light up the Florida Historic Capitol Museum in Tallahassee in blue this week for World Diabetes Day.
State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong said he hopes the blue spotlight will shed light on ways to prevent the growing disease.
The Capitol Museum will join other historic building around the world, including the Empire State Building and Sydney’s Opera House, which are all lighting up blue on Wednesday.
State health officials said diabetes among adult Floridians has increased nearly 27 percent in the past decade.
Diabetes affects more than 300 million people worldwide.
World Diabetes Day will kick off at the capitol Wednesday morning.
